Default AE opinions

yo personally ive never really hated ae or anything but recently i have just come to really not like it. It really annoys me that EVERY shirt they have has some sort of branding, and basically maybe a graphic and nothing else. It makes me really really made they are making a knockoff version of my sunglasses!!!!! theres look almost exactly alike and i dont want people to think i have cheap shitty sunglasses. Anyway i was just wondering other peoples opinions on ae. The truth is I actually dont mind their jeans to much, but the thing that annoys me is that i know people who go in ae every now and then and basically buy everything. So there is my rant if you feel like responding thats fine.

it made more sense to me after this that salon.com interview with jeffries. Just the part where he says they try to sell clothes that will appeal to and fit everyone and that won't work...idk it was something like that but I've noticed it's soo true.

AE used to be good back in the day....

until Hollister came along.

AE did have OK stuff, it held up better than most of my Old Navy stuff, but it stretched out, or tore after a few months of use. Their jeans are decent, i have a pair of their carpenter jeans from 2002 that are still holding up. Now, their sizing has changed, but i don't mind some of their stuff. But their belts are great, i bought this one a year ago: http://www.ae.com/web/browse/product...ctId=0223_0060

and i still use it to this day. Now if AE made them in different colors, since the buckle is just perfect(not too flashy like Hurley or Quik's bottle opener belts), i really like the brushed finish on it.

I've never been able to view AE as anything other than an A&F knockoff, however true or untrue that is. It just has no seperate defining image of its own, except in oposition to A&F. Which is basically why I dislike it.

I find it horribly annoying when I buy something from AE and I see about 1029 other people in town wearing it. I guess it's because they're SUCH a popular and mainstream brand, and everyone wears them. Blech, nothing against them though, their stuff's ok.

EXACT same reason here.

For example I bought that "I'm A Keeper" shirt off the internet when it first came out. Like a week later I saw everyone and their brother wearing that stupid shirt. I got rid of it a month later.

If I'm gonna eat messy food, get painted, play paintball, work on the car (might get greasy), etc., I wear my AE. I still get to dress and have the AF casual lifestyle look (to a degree), but won't have to worry about ruining my AF stuff that cost me so much

I read somewhere that AE is the poor man's Abercrombie & Fitch. I completly agree.

While I can totally see where ANF is coming from when they accuse AE of plagiarism, that isn't entirely true or fair. I just realized today as I observed my shirts hanging side by side how different they really are- not just with quality, but with style.

AE's long-sleeve button-down is made of thinner cotton. While that may be construed solely as cheapness, it also makes the shirt more flexible in its composition, not to mention more suitable for hot summer days.

The colors of the AE shirts are not quite as rich, so AE loses points there.

The collar of the ANF shirt is much bigger and more prominent, indicating that it plays a more significant role in the statement the wearer makes. It's also straight and stiff, while the AE collar is more flexible in its nature.

Basically, ANF shirts are more dressy and not quite as casual as the AE shirts. Higher in quality, yes- but that difference in quality may not always be necessary for some.
