Default Injured @ the gym :(

well the other day I was bench pressing 205 lbs, which is an easy weight for me.. i can rep it w/o a spot no problem....however, i really messed myself up friday night & ended up in the ER.

was doing my usual 205 & was on like the 8th rep when I see my pec / armpit are twitching like crazy, then SNAP...my arm gave out & it all falls on me, so i throw it off really fast & in pain & the 205 lbs lands DIRECTLY on my big toe..blood starts gushing through my shoe... i take my shoe off & i have a laceration down to the bone & my toe nail is danging off....so i almost blackout.. my shoulder it killing me as well.

end up in the ER & they sew my toe back together & re attach the nail to the nail bed....then the worst part... it looks like i have a Ruptured Pectoral, which is pretty bad...usually requiring surgery. i have a huge bruise going down my bicep & a dent in my armpit area where the muscle used to be....then my pec looks huge b/c the muscle is down in the pec. i have to get an MRI, but it looks like I'll be out of the gym for a while. sucks...

I haven't logged on in days mostly because I don't have a lot to say but I clicked on here just a few minutes ago and I have to say, that sucks and sounds like that was a ****ing insane incident. I hope you're doing better soon!

When you're taking it easy, stay away from anything with fat/calories, just a friendly heads up. My stepdad tore his ACL playing indoor soccer and he thought because he had just been through surgery and whatnot he could eat some comfort food for the month he was out but he ended up gaining like 20 lbs or something.

So by ruptured pectoral you mean part of your muscle in your pec ripped apart? Jesus christ... ouch.

yeah where your chest muscle crosses over across your arm pit... it snapped off there.

Did your MD give you any sort of estimate of the overall heal time for the injuries?

ugh I honestly almost got sick reading this...I have a weak stomach, I definitely would have passed out. I can't imagine how you feel!

How long do you have before you have to get surgery? It seems like that would be something you'd have to go in for asap.

Hope you're feeling better soon!

I havent been to my primary doctor yet... tomorrow at 415pm i go & get the stitches out of my toe...he will probably set me up w/ an MRI...then go from there.

& yeah, the toe hurts the most but the muscle situation has me really worried b/c if I have surgery it'll be 6 months until I'm FULLY recovered. I really hope it's a partial tear & he says it'll heal on its own & I can just relax for a month or 2 & then go about my old ways.

I'm flying out to Vegas friday morning too & it looks like i'll be going as a gimp

Have you gotten any explanation as to why that would happen? That seems really odd.

That blows. Just one bad thing to another. Crazy freak accidents. Hopefully you can avoid surgery, if possible.

I used to skateboard (fml) and a piece of sheet metal went in and severed my achilles tendon. My sock went from white to red in a fraction of a second. Shit hurt so bad.

Damn that really does suck. Thats one of my worst nightmares, not because I have to get surgery but because I'll be away from the gym for so long. Hope it heals quick and the surgery isn't necessary.

I would've guessed it had something to do with the ridiculous amount of pain involved. When I work out, I'm always just afraid I'll slip and drop a weight on my face. Good thing I don't work out so much!

I can take pain, its just the possibility of losing so much progress which is hard to take in. It takes so much time and hard work to get the bodies we want and when you can't maintain it, its really depressing.

I agree, I put so much time & effort into this... i was to the point of being at the best shape in my life.... extremely strong & ripped off my ass... full out 6pack, ripped shoulders, veins popping out of my legs, defined as shit pecs....i know i'm gonna lose a good bit of that.

i wont be staying out of the gym completely though.... legs are still a go & i'm gonna try & do very very light weight resistance training, cardio, etc...

I don't care how strong you are, you should always have a spotter with you for heavy lifting. I've seen gym rats who think they're immortal getting injured all the time. Your injury might be a hint you need to ease off the gym for a while.

^He did say he easily reps 205, so for him it wasn't heavy weights.

Hopefully this turns out to be a best case scenario and is just a partially torn muscle, certainly sounds painful though.

Sounds like you netted yourself a nice repeat stress injury.

^Not everyone does. I don't, and come to think of it, most people at the gym, about 90% of them don't.
