Default Frequently Asked Questions: FAQ

In an effort to reduce redundant threads a FAQ has been put together. This will be updated as needed.

1) The Abercrombie & Fitch catalog is hit or miss. Subscribing multiple times does not increase your chances of receiving one. People living in other countries than the United States have been known to get them over people in the United States. Getting one for some has been a game of luck. You can request one by filling in the information here ( http://www.abercrombie.com/anf/onlin...l/catalog.html ).

2) Ruehl has no plans to turn their website into an online selection of their clothes like A&F has currently set up. Rumor has it a large update will be put in place Winter 2007 however it is not confirmed. We currently do not think it will put out a catalog like A&F.

3) In the Abercrombie & Fitch stores the fragrance they currently spray is a watered down version of Fierce cologne.

4) The only shoes allowed for employees of A&F are Converse Chucks or flip-flops with minimal branding (if not A&F). Meaning these fit the A&F style.

5) Abercrombie & Fitch has been known to repeat styles of certain clothes (especially winter gear) year to year.

6) A list of A&Fs closing down can be found here ( http://topicstyle.com/showthread.php?t=6611 ).

7) If you are wondering about a certain pair of jeans... go here first before asking please ( http://topicstyle.com/showthread.php?t=5732 ).

8) At the A&F stores there are two positions. Impact and Model. Impact works in the backrooms while Model works out front in the storeroom. There are also positions open for those who work night shifts.

9) If you are going in for a job interview for Ruehl, A&F, Hollister CO... try to look your best wearing the "in" colours for the season with clothing from the store you are being interviewed for.

10) A Small in A&F is almost equal to an XL in Abercrombie Kids.

However..
* the Boys/Men’s XL is wider in the chest and arm. Shorter overall. Long sleeve arms are much shorter for the XL.
* the Girls/Women’s XL is narrower in the chest and arm. V-neck XL's are much shorter whereas Women's XS's are deeper V's. Shorter overall. Long sleeve arms generally* are much shorter for the XL.

*(depends on particular season's style i.e. BTS '06 are longer than normally).

Girls L ~ Women’s XS
Girls XL ~ Women’s S

For Boys/Men’s jeans a comparison is...
14 is like a 27X28. A 16 fits like a 31X30ish

For Girls/Women's jeans an example is...
A girls size 16S fits a little bit looser than a 00 and a girls size 16 fits a little bit looser than a 0. The letter S stands for slim and means simply that the fit is identical to the next smallest size with the inseam of the current size. (Thanks Bri)

11) TRY EVERYTHING ON BEFORE YOU BUY IT

12) If you decide to buy something on ebay be careful of the authenticity of the item. Never buy anything from Hong Kong or something with photos taken from the A&F website. There are not many Ruehl fakes out there, however still remain careful... they will come in time. If you are questioning the authenticity of your item, post the pictures of it on the forum and we will do our best to validate the authenticity of it.

13) The method of rolling up your sleeves created by J Crew, can be found here ( http://topicstyle.com/showthread.php?t=6411 ).

14) Yes A&F used to sell outdoors gear for most of it's history. See ( http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Abercro..._Fitch#History ). If you find an old A&F item... you're lucky. Post pictures of it on the forums so we can all enjoy it.

15) If an item is selling well in the stores... don't expect it to go on clearance any time soon. Some items like cologne almost never go on clearance until a new fragrance comes out. Once an item is on clearance and it's gone, it's gone.

16) A thread on Ruehl's new locations has already been started and discussed. You can find it here ( http://topicstyle.com/showthread.php?t=4743 ).

17) Abercrombie & Fitch has items on clearance almost always however it is now believed there will be no more large sales.

18) You can return any unworn item at any time as long as have the receipt and/or tag. However you can only get store credit with just a tag. This goes for all AFco concepts.

19) Ruehln925 is indeed addicted to hoodies. You don't need to tell him this.

20) Our famous "Ask Wooolus" thread can be found here .
( The Classic Ask Wooolus Thread ).

21) Acronyms
LOL - laughing out loud
IDK - I don't know
IONO - I don't know
ROFL - rolling on the floor laughing
LMAO - laughing my ass off
FTW - for the win (used to mean "is the best" ect.)
WB - welcome back
AKA - also known as
IIRC - if I remember correctly
BTW - by the way

For others please refer to here ( http://www.gaarde.org/acronyms/ ).

22. RUEHL is prounounced RULE.

23. To post smaller images of those found on the website follow this guide from Lno -

"just change the "_l" for "_b" in the url

ie:
large:
http://www.abercrombie.com/anf/onlin...14360_01_l.jpg
small:
http://www.abercrombie.com/anf/onlin...14360_01_b.jpg "

24. To find older pictures from the Abercrombie website, you just have to change the numbers in the image's url. Here is an example of an image url:

http://www.abercrombie.com/anf/onlin...14630_01_l.jpg

...then change the number "14630" to a different number such as "14631". This will bring up a new product. Smaller numbers will bring up older products, and larger numbers will bring up images of current items or items that are not yet available online/in-store. If you want to find pics of the same product, but in a different color, change the number "01" to another number, such as "02".

Thanks ryank1989 for the post!

urban dictionary is also a good source of expanding slangs and acronyms.

This is really good, but I'm confused about one part.

"For Boys/Men’s jeans a comparison is...
4 is like a 27X28. A 16 fits like a 31X30ish"

I'm fairly certain that you didn't mean 4, but I don't know exactly what number you did mean. I've never tried on the boys jeans but I assume that there wouldn't be such an insane difference between a size 14 and a size 16. Perhaps you should fix that number?

Also, a girls size 16S fits a little bit looser than a 00 and a girls size 16 fits a little bit looser than a 0. The letter S stands for slim and means simply that the fit is identical to the next smallest size with the inseam of the current size.

i think there should be a rule added to this:

do not ask questions about the frequently asked questions.

EDIT: for example, #2. do not ask if maybe they might change ruehl's website.
or #4. don't ask if you can get away with anything else.

Yeah I'll fix the 14. I can't say for sure that it's correct as I got the information from others however I'm glad you said something. I'm also going to add what you said about the sizing. Thanks

should be a big warning/notice to new users... either displayed as a page immediately after registration, before posting a new thread, or in larger font on the main index... can this be done?

Whatever. If you wear converse at my store. I'm sending you home, or making you buy flip flops.

Even though I wear my DIESELs all the time.

1) You're employees are told they can specifically wear Converse.
2) You can't MAKE them buy anything.
3) You should be fired.

No. My employees are not told they can wear converse.
GMs/SMs have the right to make certian rules for their stores. My GM has a FLIP FLOPS/TREADS ONLY policy which Mike Jeffires loved btw.

And I can tell them to buy something in the look policy before they start their shift or they need to go home & be written up. I give them the option.

I'm pretty sure that to tell somebody they have to wear something, it has to be provided by the company.

Another to add to the FAQ.

RUEHL DOES NOT HAVE SALES. Old merchandise gets clearanced while new merchandise is put on the floor.
