this is exactly what everyone said about RUEHL... give it a year... it'll be nothing more than rebranded ANF.

It might turn into a PINK clone, soon enough. PINK to me runs on the slutty/trampish side of things.

They should do a Comedy Central Roast of MJ.

Oh, there'd be SOO much content to flame off of.

I thought Gilly Hicks' competition was Aerie. They're like the same thing....they both sell like underwear, and dormhoodies, and fleece pants...

I have to disagree here still. GH is a much more specialized store than Ruehl is. I think Ruehl was a much different case and in a very different position than GH is in. Sure, GH's dormwear is identical to AnF's and Ruehl's, and has GILLY HICKS splattered all over it, but that's unavoidable. It's just become a staple of the company and people will continue to buy it up. These items consist of maybe half the store though. There are obviously plenty of items in the other half of the store that aren't found in the other concepts. I highly doubt AnF, HCO, or Ruehl will be launching these items anytime soon, it was the entire point of creating Gilly Hicks.

The basic items and dormwear are the same as AnF's and comparable to PINK and aerie. But like I said, the rest of the store has stuff that aerie and VS don't offer and with a much different twist. They have to offer that basic stuff though because the competition has it and it's probably their bottom line. I have to agree though that VS stuff is slutty/trampish looking. GH created stuff that is still really sexy (especially if you're attracted to the AnF thing) but is still classy and has some taste.

Stores like A+F are good "safe havens" for people who don't really have their own style themselves. If you're a high schooler or college student, and just want to get laid and don't have the money or the experience to put together great outfits, A+F is a no-brainer. Obviously, if you want "quality" items you have to put a lot of time and money into it, but truthfully A+F isn't that expensive. Nobody buys their stuff at full price anymore. You can pretty much get everything you need off clearance for the same price as generic clothing.

So I mean A+F has its time and place.

No, people without style still come out of A&F with lame outfits. It's really not a no-brainer. I disagree with you fully on that. Also, when has A&F clothing alone ever gotten someone laid?

I'm just saying that if you take the average girl in high or college, she's going to be a lot more impressed with A+F or Hollister than she would be with generic brands or AE and Aero. Not saying I agree with A+F being the greatest (I'm really more into Polo and Locoste) but A+F appeals to many people, especially in younger demographics.

Fair enough. I'm completely out of that loop.

I don't think any girl my age (upper HS) is really impressed by any of those brands, and she definitely wouldn't use what the label on your polo is when considering you in her boning index. Decked out in AnF gets no points if you look like a regular tool versus the identical guy with the black no-name buttondown half open.

Regarding this thread and Ruehl: (quote from 2006)
Quote:
"Give us something new, something refreshing, something worthy of the LUXURY you desire to provide CASUALLY. Give us blazers and peacoats without blemish or wear. Give us premium denim worth $198 and by that I mean imported fabrics carefully crafted and sewn without being destroyed or beaten or painted on. We can do that ourselves should we desire. Post graduates do work and unlike the campus culture at One Fitch Path holey jeans are frowned upon. Give us wovens and polos with those velvet tapings and classic cuts. Forego the name RUEHL for once and give us a logo, the beloved Trubble. Give us those triple thick pullovers as you know NYC is an unbearably cold place in winter. Enough with the flip flops and treads. No real Yonker would wear them. Humor tees need to fly out the door as with those outrageously huge winter parkas. Give us back those nice leather jackets and beautiful trackets too. Where did the wallets go? Why are all the handbags attrocious? Bring back black. Just because you don't like that color doesn't mean we don't want it. You have the oppurtunity here to make RUEHL the epitome, the queen of the the brands. Do something about it. Your consumers aren't happy. Your investors aren't happy. Your employees aren't happy. The perfect RUEHL existed a year ago. Bring me a DeLorean and we'll rock this 80's style, but for the love of the brand DON'T F IT UP."
-Kendrick
My favorite quote regarding anything related to an A&F brand.

nice that you're knocking anf and saying that polo and lacoste are much better (referencing your post before that, where you said that anf isn't expensive and isn't fashionable). anf is basically at the same price point as the other two (and usually more expensive because half the stuff at the other two end up on cheap clearance in outlets or department stores in greater quantity than anf merchandise) and each his its own look...you're not talking truly luxury or "stylish" brands that require you to have lots of money.

and p.s., next time you try to knock anf with shitty lacoste, learn how to spell it right (don't just look at the labels at your knockoff lacoste that spells it "locoste").

you wouldn't think so. but one of my friends tested this theory once...he asked this girl if she'd be more apt to sleep with me cause i was wearing an anf button down...she smiled and walked away...he took it as a tell that her answer would be "yes", but who knows haha.

^^ Part 1: I don't think he was knocking the brands. I think he wa talking more about it's appeal to others.

Part 2: She was probably just being silly.
