I've heard of some instances in which if a mall has an Abercrombie and a Hollister, sometimes the Hollister does better sales. Do you think it could get to the point that Abercrombie gets outdone by Hollister? As in theres More Hollisters, or they rake in more Cash/Do more business than Abercrombie.
I think it could, but I'm not really sure. I mean theyre both owned by Abercrombie and Fitch COMPANY (Or whatever its called) do you think they would let their main store get outdone by another one? I definetly think it could. HCO is popular among almost EVERYONE at my school, but rarely do I see any Abercrombie. I dunno, I might just be rambling on, but I want to know your opinions. |

hmm I do think HCo would eventually do more than AF but hey theres more highschoolers than college kids around, isn't there? what I don't like is how HCo is becoming more of a brand that a lot of "feminine" guys wear, not that anything is wrong with that, I'm just sayin it's sales are drifting from the actual target, highschoolers that want the Cali style. It might just be my area, cuz I'm not sure about te rest of the country. I dont really see that happening with AF cuz its more of a jock's brand when it comes to guys. I walk in to HCo and the older kids that shop/work there seem a lil queer, except for the younger kids. but yea im ramblin too, back to the "subject" i guess it wouldnt hurt much if HCo took more sales, considering prices are a bit cheaper

At Hollister and All I see is those "Emo" surfer guys. Skinny, long bleached hair, ect. All in All, I guess its a mix-up between the stores, but id o agree theres WAY mroe High School students than College kids. And plus Most high School kids have more money and no bills to pay, so they can afford to buy whatever, but a lot of kids in college can't really afford to buy much lol |

hollister seems to be the store where people go in, see something they like and buy it, and then a lot of people go into AF with the mindset of just looking, not even thinking to look at the price tags. whenever i'm in AF and i'm carrying around 3 pairs of jeans i'm gonna try on / buy and some shirts, people stare at me more then they stare at the merchandise and one older woman probably in her 30's asked me if i worked there, i said no and she said wow you're going to buy all that stuff? and i said yeah? and she was just kind of shocked and i laughed about it later, but it's sad that a lot of people just assume everything is really expensive before they actually take a look. i live right next to a military base too, so all the marines walk into AF and hit on the chicks that work, pick up some shirts, then carry them around and put them back down before they leave, and i'm just like wtf? then they go to hollister right after, do the same thing to the chicks but actually buy the shirts they were carrying. AF is pretty exclusive compared to hollister where i live, because there's a lot of lower class families in this area of san diego. sucks that people see an AF sweater and just assume you paid an arm and a leg for it. AF gets by though, so that's all i care about |

It's funny that you say that both Hollister and Abercrombie & Fitch are right next to each other in your local mall, in mine they're right across from each other! I thought that was funny but yeah a lot more people in Hollister. I think that Hollister is good, though A&F isn't all that exclusive any more, (hell I just got into it but I was always intrigued by the loud dance music, dimly lit store and huge, huge half naked man portrait when you walked in...) It still has something left to be desirable -- of course for those who see something in Abercrombie other than social status.

I definitely LOVE A&F more than Hollister. I go into Hollister and it just isn't what I like. I really like the way Abercrombie has their store set up, I LOVE the music, and I really like their clothes. I noticed that Hollister (and ironically AE for a little while) had some borderline bellbottom-looking jeans I thought they were UGLY! LOL, anyway I like Abercrombie the most. Yea I have seen lots of guys in Abercrombie here with their boyfriends and I couldn't care less. They are usually really nice and all. I think I am just a tad bit feminine...
ops: but I love to look good!

Well I don't really care about hollister or whether it makes more money. Hollister is what everyone wears now, so I wouldn't be suprised if they did better in sales, but Abercrombie & Fitch does well in sales too, since their prices are higher people tend to buy more and spend more there - Like today I went in and some lady bought her daughter $2000.00 worth of clothes.
To me, hollister clothes are far worse than A&F's. And I can not stand that SEAGULL!! |

HCo does outperform A&F in sales around me because the two areas where I live where both stores are (a few stores away from one another) many, many, many... and I mean many high school kids roam around with nothing to do but spend their parents' money (if anyone is familiar with Crocker Park, you know what I'm talking about).
As for the whole HCo. drifting toward the "feminine" male crowd, nothing of the sorts bothers me as long as those types of guys aren't wearing WOMEN'S jeans. Nothing bothers me more than cross-dressers. I have skinny legs but you won't ever catch me in women's jeans of any kind. At all. Whatsoever. Does that bother anyone else? |

i dont think hollister will ever out do A&F.
i personally dont shop at hollister it is cheap and people know it. its for highschool kids and i hate seeing 25 year old guys and girls wearing it.gross. A&F and Ruehl are more my style. plus in NC its looked down upon if you shop there. at both A&F and Hollister. |

i would say i see anf more than i see hollister being worn. the guys can prolly be separated into basic groups- 1. they have lots of anf or 2. they have one or two hollister tees and wear it out nonstop. There is also teh occasional ruehl sighted in my school but not too often. (ive seen a teacher wear a pink trubble polo before)
the girls seem to have hollister hoodies up teh wazoo, and come to think of it, i havent really seen any girls with anf hoodies all year. either im really missing something or hollister seems to be more popular with the girls. at my mall, there is no hollister, only Ruehl and the Anf's. there seems to be a good balance of anf/ruehl at my mall. |

I mean i've noticed at my mall A&F and HCO are in the same pathway and i've seen people actually go through a straight line meaning they go to hollister then after that they just walk right over to abercrombie.. so in my mall they equally get really good business.
Yea, but i really don't shop at hollister like i used to.. i just shop at A&F and ruehl. ![]() Yeah but i think that its definitely possible for hollister to overrun abercrombie... but it won't happen any time soon. |

The managers at my store and the Hollister in the mall always compete on total sales/units sold. Abercrombie always makes a lot more money, but Hollister kills us in units sold. Both stores generally have the same amount of people in them at a time, it's just the Abercrombie's are bigger so the Hollisters always seem more packed.

Hollister is already outperforming A&F.
In terms of number of stores, Hollister surpassed A&F last year... there are currently 425 Hollister stores and 358 Abercrombie & Fitch stores. I don't have a current breakdown of net sales per brand, but at the end of FY2006, Hollister did $1.363 billion in net sales compared to A&F's $1.515 billion. Given the success rate of Hollister compared to A&F over the past 3 years and the fact that there are 33 additional Hollister stores compared to 2 fewer A&F stores since the end of FY2006, it's pretty safe to say that Hollister will surpass A&F in net sales this year. |

Hollister is more of the kiddie version of A&F and is more towards the good ol' highschool....And also, mainly, it is a theme brand...The whole surfer, california, etc. etc. style... Basically, meaning it doesn't mean it can be applied to everyone easily...
A&F is a more mature brand, proof: ![]() Now imagine Beckham wearing Hollister instead...Yeah, will look a lot more different... ![]() See, it is not the same...lol Heck, apparently even an old guy can pull of the style: ![]() Basically, A&F will "at heart" be the top of the two brands, because it something that doesn't fade as quickly as Hollister, and you can still look good in it years on...Sure you might go for less branding, but a cute little moose looks rather nice with any age... Personally I never really got into Hollister, preferred A&F look more... Last edited by Anton; 11-06-2007 at 03:24 AM. |

^ How does adding a seagull to his shirt make him look any more mature? He's still wearing a tight bright green tee shirt and destroyed cargo shorts. :-\
Anyways, our mall hollister always outdoes us. They're always at least a couple of percentage points up from LY and the amount of units sold is a lot higher than us. Obviously it has to be considering that they beat us and their merchandise is at lower price points. |
